Crazy Quilt

March was another great month for real food posts! There are more and more bloggers spreading the good word about real food and clean living! We are all speaking from our own personal experiences and so there is a lot of diversity in perspectives … lots to learn. Take a peek at this small selection of helpful posts from March.

On Taking Care of Yourself

A Good Attitude – It’s become crystal clear to me that attitude has a tremendous lot to do with how healthy you are. When you’re young you can get away with a lot more stinkin’ thinkin’ and still feel okay, but for those of us who are gettin’ on in years it really wears on you. Keeping a positive outlook and getting plenty of rest is the very foundation of health. Along with a good diet, of course :-) . I thought I’d mention that I’ve really enjoyed Eckhart Tolle TV. It really helps me keep a clear head … Eckhart’s voice is calming in and of itself … filled with space.

Skin Care – If you’re looking for a better way to take care of your skin than using commercial lotions and creams you’ll enjoy this post. Oil cleansing is a great way to care for either oily or dry skin. I use simple coconut oil or flax if my skin feels a little dry which is VERY rare these days. Normally my skin feels fine with just the natural oils from my diet which is high in saturated fats. Promiseland Farm has more on how commercial skin care products are toxic.

Hormone Balancing – This post from Ann Marie at Cheeselave covers all the bases on balancing hormones naturally with food. I hear from more and more young women that they are showing signs of entering a premature menopause. This is a real tragedy! And it’s just one of the many hormonal difficulties people are experiencing in our toxic food world. Ann Marie writes that she has had great success balancing her hormones with this method. I’m sure that doing everything in this post has helped me too on the hormonal side of things, so much so that this is one of those very rare moments when I ever think about it ;-) .

Insulin Sensitivity – Apple cider vinegar is like a miracle in a bottle. I’m continually amazed at all the conditions it can help with. This post on how apple cider vinegar can help with some of the issues related to diabetes and insulin resistance was very helpful … anyone with blood sugar issues may want to give it some consideration.

Recipes and Ingredients

Ingredients – This printable guide to good and bad fats would make a handy carry-along while you’re learning to correctly identify the kinds of fats that are healthy.

Coconut – To me the obstacle to fresh coconut has been just how to get into the thing! I have a childhood memory of my older brother spending a day trying to figure it out :-) . Dina-Marie at Cultured Palate makes cracking coconuts look so easy! And this post on the differences between refined and unrefined coconut oil helps clarify things when it comes to coconut oils.

Favorite Recipes – Loved these unusual whole pan pancakes called Hootenanny Pancakes … who wouldn’t! This ginger chicken salad looks delectable. And this dip … bacon, herb and cream cheese? Does it get any better? On the sweet side the guys are pretty crazy about peanut butter cups … I think they’d love these chocolate peanut butter bars.

Easy-Living Granny Style

Vintage Brewery – This tour of a vintage brewery in Britain is a great overview of how beer is made traditionally.

Dog Care – Now I don’t have a dog but I was very interested in this post on what to do if you can’t feed your dog a raw food diet nonetheless. I have a little kitty that suffers from outbreaks of eczema and have been giving him some raw food and some grain-free kibble. I’m always looking for anything I can do that is practical that can bring our feeding of the cats closer to a natural diet for them.

Homemade Rain Barrel – We actually did make a rain barrel that was really similiar to this one … it was easy!

Lots of great posts this month but I think I’ll have to stop here … What did you find that you loved in March?
